On October 3, Plácido Domingo will be honored with the San Pietro a Majella Award in a special ceremony in Naples that will also usher in the "CARUSO 100" project, a journey funded by the Italian Ministry of University and Research to celebrate great tenor Enrico Caruso, 100 years after his death.

The prestigious Conservatory of Naples, the oldest in the world, stated that Domingo, who was “chosen as the sumptuous testimonial of this ample Caruso celebration” will speak in front of the Conservatory students “about his own privileged relationship with the Caruso legend, including his choice of repertoire ranging from great melodrama to Neapolitan song.” After the conversation, Domingo will receive the exclusive distinction which until now has only been awarded to Aldo Ciccolini, Roberto De Simone and Riccardo Muti.

“The San Pietro a Majella Award is a great privilege that the Conservatory of Naples bestows upon me. It is even more significant for me to receive it right now, as part of the celebrations of Caruso's centenary. Enrico Caruso is 'the' tenor: he is an eternal myth! He was an inspiration for me and for many other artists like me, especially tenors” said Domingo, praising Naples’ atmosphere and the magnificent Neapolitan song.
