    Two Performances of La Traviata at the Bolshoi Theatre

    Following two exciting Gala evenings entirely dedicated to Zarzuela, the first one at the Wiener Staatsoper and the second one at the Opéra de Montecarlo honoring the celebrations of the Fête du Prince, Plácido Domingo returns to Moscow for two performances of La Traviata at the Bolshoi Theatre on November 25 and 28.

    Performing the baritone role of Giorgio Germont, Domingo joins Operalia laureates Irina Lungu and Dinara Alieva in the role of Violetta, Arturo Chacón Cruz as Alfredo and Bekhzod Davronov as Gastone. Maestro Tugan Sokhiev conducts the Bolshoi Theatre Orchestra in a Francesca Zambello production.

    Domingo sang to acclaim the role of Alfredo Germont since 1961, made his conducting debut with La Traviata at the New York City Opera in 1973 and made his role debut as Giorgio Germont at the Metropolitan Opera in 2013.

    DOMINGO CELEBRATES MONACO’S NATIONAL DAY WITH A CONCERT OF ZARZUELA FAVORITES

    On November 19, operatic super star Plácido Domingo returns to Monte-Carlo to honor the Principality of Monaco’s 2021 National Day with a Nuit Espagnole, at the Salle des Princes of the Grimaldi Forum.

    For the special evening of Zarzuela and Spanish favorites, Domingo is joined by Madrilenian soprano Saioa Hernández and Jerezian tenor Ismael Jordi, accompanied by the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Alcoian conductor Jordi Bernàcer. The acclaimed Antonio Gades Company will also grace the stage with its alluring dancers.

    The celebratory concert, organized by the Opéra de Monte-Carlo, includes works by Gerónimo Giménez, Pablo Sorozábal, Manuel de Falla, Manuel Penella, and more.

    TWO PERFORMANCES AT THE WIENER STAATSOPER

    This month, Plácido Domingo returns to the Wiener Staatsoper for two performances on November 12 and 15.

    On November 12, the legendary artist stars as Nabucco, a role he first took on at London’s Royal Opera House in 2013 and which he sang earlier this year to celebrate his 80th birthday with a live stream from the Wiener Staatsoper. For this performance, Domingo is joined by Saioa Hernández as Abigaille, Massimo Giordano as Ismaele, Roberto Tagliavini as Zaccaria and Szilvia Vörös as Fenena. Maestro Paolo Carignani conducts in a Günter Krämer production.

    Later, on November 15, Plácido Domingo brings a night of Zarzuela favorites to the Wiener Staatsoper for the first time, performing alongside Spanish soprano Saioa Hernandez and Mexican tenor Arturo Chacón-Cruz, with Maestro Jordi Bernácer leading the Wiener Staatsoper Orchestra.

    Domingo’s return to Vienna accompanies numerous highly anticipated debuts, as Saioa Hernandez, Jordi Bernácer and Operalia Laureates Arturo Chacón-Cruz and Amartuvshin Enkhbat, who alternates with Domingo as Nabucco, are all performing at the prestigious Wiener Staatsoper for the first time.

    Winners Announced for Operalia 2021

    In a ceremony held at the historic Bolshoi Theatre, following the Final Gala Concert conducted by Plácido Domingo, Operalia presented the Winners of this year's competition.

    The Operalia 2021 First Prize honors were awarded to Victoria Karkacheva (mezzo-soprano, Russia) and Ivan Ayón-Rivas (tenor, Perú).

    Second Prize honors were awarded to Mané Galoyan (soprano, Armenia), Bekhzod Davronov (tenor, Uzbekistan) and Jonah Hoskins (tenor, USA).

    Emily Pogorelc (soprano, USA), Dmitry Cheblykov (baritone, Russia) and Jusung Park (bass-baritone, South Korea) were awarded the Third Prize. 

    Victoria Karkacheva was was honored with the Birgit Nilsson Prize.

    The Pepita Embil and the Don Plácido Domingo Ferrer Zarzuela Prizes were awarded to Mané Galoyan and Ivan Ayón-Rivas, who were voted as audience favorites and received the Rolex Prize of the Audience.

    Russian soprano Ekaterina Sannikova was awarded the CulturArte Prize.

    Audiences around the world can watch the Final Gala Concert and Award Ceremony for free on demand on medici.tv until January 14, 2022.

  • Domingo returns to the Bolshoi Theatre podium

    Following his appearances in Mérida and Florence, the legendary Plácido Domingo returns to the Bolshoi Theatre podium.

    Beginning October 12, Domingo conducts three sold out performances of Tosca with operatic luminary Anna Netrebko starring in the title role on October 12 and 14, opposite Elchin Azizov as Scarpia and Murat Katrahan as Cavaradossi, a role which Domingo himself sang for 225 performances. On October 16, Lithuanian soprano Maria Lobanova takes over the role of Floria Tosca.

    Later, on October 24, Domingo conducts the Operalia 2021 Final Gala Concert leading the Bolshoi Theatre Orchestra, which will be streamed live to audiences around the world via Medici.TV.
