    Watch the final round of Operalia 2019!

    This Friday, July 26, the final round of Operalia 2019 will be webcast live from the Prague National Theater.

    Audiences around the world will be able to watch the final round and award ceremony on Medici.tv.

    Founded by Plácido Domingo in 1993, Operalia has brought some of opera's most celebrated singers onto the world stage, including Nina Stemme, Sonya Yoncheva, Joyce DiDonato, Rolando Villazón, and many others.

    Gala Plácido Domingo at Terme di Caracalla

    On August 7, Plácido Domingo performs at the legendary Terme di Caracalla for a special gala evening, “Noche Española.”

    Conducted by Jordi Bernàcer, the evening also features soprano Ana María Martínez and tenor Arturo Chacón-Cruz in an evening of zarzuela and Spanish classical music. The singers will be accompanied by the Rome Opera Theater Orchestra and the Antonio Gades Dance Company of Madrid.

    Built between 212 and 216 AD, the Baths of Caracalla are among the largest thermal baths in the world. Almost 30 years ago, the famous ruins marked the backdrop for the original Three Tenors concert featuring Plácido Domingo, Luciano Pavarotti, José Carreras and conductor Zubin Mehta.

    Celebrating 50 Years with the Arena di Verona

    This summer, the illustrious Arena di Verona celebrates the 50th anniversary of Plácido Domingo’s 1969 house debut with three performances in July and August.

    Beginning on July 28, Domingo returns to Verona to conduct Verdi's Aida. The Gianfranco de Bosio production includes soprano Tamara Wilson (Aida), mezzo-soprano Violeta Urmana (Amneris), and tenor Fabio Sartori (Radamés).

    Later, on August 1, Domingo brings his distinguished baritone voice to the stage, performing as Giorgio Germont in Verdi's La Traviata. The classic Franco Zeffirelli production will be led by conductor Marco Armiliato and features 2007 Operalia winner Lisette Oropesa as Violetta Valéry and Italian tenor Vittorio Grigolo as Alfredo Germont.

    Domingo closes his time at Arena di Verona on August 4 with a celebratory 50th Anniversary Gala honoring 50 years of singing on the Verona stage. Highlighting Domingo’s incredible passion and talent for the music of Giuseppe Verdi, the evening features excerpts from Nabucco, I Due Foscari, and Macbeth. Domingo is joined by Anna Pirozzi, Fabio Sartori, Rafał Siwek, Géraldine Chauvet, Elisabetta Zizzo, Romano Dal Zovo, Carlo Bosi, and Lorrie Garciaunder the baton of Jordi Bernàcer.

    One Month until Operalia 2019!

    From July 21-26, 41 singers will compete as part of Operalia 2019 at the Národní Divadlo (National Theatre) in Prague, Czech Republic.

    The competition begins with Quarterfinals on July 21 and 22, Semifinals on July 23, and Finals on July 26. The final concert of the competition will be accompanied by the National Theatre Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Plácido Domingo, who will moderate the evening as well.

    Founded in 1993 by Plácido Domingo, Operalia aims to discover and help launch the careers of the most promising young opera singers worldwide. As part of the competition, singers from around the world audition for a panel of distinguished international opera professionals. Every year, the competition moves to a new city, with past competitions in Paris, Tokyo, Washington D.C., London and more.

    Participating in the competition is only the beginning of each singer’s relationship with Operalia. Since the jury is comprised of some of the world’s leading General Directors and Casting Directors, these jurors often invite and engage singers to perform in upcoming productions or to join Young Artist Programs. Past winners of the competition include Nina Stemme, Erwin Schrott, Joyce DiDonato, Rolando Villazón, Olga Peretyatko, and Angel Blue.

  • LIVE BROADCAST: Domingo Conducts the Wiener Philharmoniker at Teatro alla Scala

    On Sunday, June 23, Medici.TV presents a live broadcast of the Rolex Ambassador Gala at Teatro alla Scala.

    Presented by Rolex, the gala supports the educational activity of the Teatro alla Scala Academy. This exciting evening of music features some of the greatest artists in classical music today, including Juan Diego Flórez, Jonas Kaufmann, Yuja Wang, and Sonya Yoncheva. Plácido Domingo joins Gustavo Dudamel in conducting the Wiener Philharmoniker for a program of Verdi, Gounod, Donizetti, Puccini, and more.

    Giovanna d’Arco at Teatro Real

    This July, the incomparable Plácido Domingo performs a concert presentation of Verdi’s Giovanna d’Arco, singing the role of Giacomo at Teatro Real. Composed by a young and ambitious Giuseppe Verdi, the opera shows the early signs of the musical genius which was to follow throughout Verdi’s remarkable career.

    Domingo leads a cast including Michael Fabiano (Carlo VII), Carmen Giannattasio (Giovanna), Moisés Marín (Delil), and Simón Orfila (Talbot). James Conlon conducts the Principal Chorus and Orchestra of the Teatro Real.

    Performances run July 14, 17, and 20.
