    In Concert at Broad Stage

    On May 14, the legendary Plácido Domingo performs at The Broad Stage, presenting a glorious evening of Italian, Spanish and Mexican songs, arias and duets.

    Domingo is joined by Operalia finalist and winner of the coveted Richard Tucker and Beverly Sills Awards, soprano Ailyn Pérez. Eugene Kohn conducts.

    The concert is presented as part of The Broad Stage’s Celebrity Opera Series.

    Role Debut at LA Opera in El Gato Montés

    On May 4, Plácido Domingo makes his 151st role debut, singing Juanillo (The Wildcat) in El Gato Montés, a thrilling tale of love, passion, and death by Manuel Penella.

    Long championed by Domingo, this great masterpiece of Spanish lyrical theater tells the passionate tale of a woman whose love and beauty stirs a fatal rivalry between a renowned bullfighter and a bandit on the run.

    Domingo is joined by Ana María Martínez (Solea), Arturo Chacón-Cruz (Rafael Ruiz), Juan Carlos Herdia (Hormígon), Rubén Amoretti (Padre Antón), and Nancy Fabiola Herrera (Fortune Teller). Jordi Bernàcer conducts the LA Opera Orchestra in this new production by Jorge Torres.

    Performances continue May 5, 8, 11, 16, and 19.

  • Celebrating 50 Years at the Metropolitan Opera

    On April 28, the Metropolitan Opera celebrates the incomparable Met career of Plácido Domingo with a special onstage event honoring the golden anniversary of his company debut.

    The gala evening features performances, spoken tributes, and dinner, with appearances by Jamie Barton, Emily D’Angelo, Rosa Feola, Erin Morley, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Michael Volle, and more surprise guests.

  • Plácido Domingo Celebrates 4,000 Opera Performances

    On April 1, 2019, the prolific Plácido Domingo once again achieved a remarkable new career milestone, celebrating his 4,000th operatic performance.

    The milestone was achieved at Wiener Staatsoper, where Domingo performed the title role in Verdi’s Simon Boccanegra, alongside Kwangchul Youn (Fiesco), Francesco Meli (Gabriele Adorno), and Eleonora Buratto (Amelia). Conductor Philippe Auguin led the Orchestra of the Wiener Staatsoper.

    Domingo has recently celebrated the 50th anniversary of his debuts in several theaters, including Wiener Staatsoper, the Metropolitan Opera, and many more. His career is marked by 151 operatic role debuts and over 60 years of professional performance.

    The unequalled performer continues to break records and explore new repertoire, an artistic drive exemplified by his motto, “If I rest, I rust.” Domingo makes yet another role debut this May as Juanillo (The Wildcat) in El Gato Montes at Los Angeles Opera.


  • La Traviata at the Metropolitan Opera

    Beginning April 13, Plácido Domingo returns to the Metropolitan Opera for five performances of Michael Mayer’s richly textured new production of La Traviata, performing the role of Giorgio Germont. Soprano Anita Hartig sings the role of the tragic Violetta Valéry, with tenor Stephen Costello performing as Alfredo Germont. Conductor Nicola Luisotti leads the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra.

    Performances continue April 17, 20, 24, and 27.


  • Metropolitan Opera Announces Role Debut for 2019

    The Metropolitan Opera has recently announced its 2019/2020 season, promising two exciting appearances by the prolific Plácido Domingo.

    On September 25, 28, and October 1, Domingo performs as Macbeth opposite sopranos Anna Netrebko (September 25 and 28) and Anna Pirozzi (October 1) as Lady Macbeth in Adrian Noble’s evocative production. The cast also includes Matthew Polenzani (Macduff) and Ildar Abdrazakov (Banquo). Marco Armiliato conducts.

    Later in the fall, the inimitable Domingo makes another role debut, performing as Sharpless in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly. He is joined by soprano Hui He (Cio-Cio-San) and tenor Andrea Carè (Pinkerton). Pier Giorgio Morandi conducts Anthony Minghella’s sweeping production. Domingo sings November 6, 9, 13, and 16.
