  • Plácido Domingo Headlines Concert Performance of I Due Foscari at Opéra de Monte-Carlo

On December 5, Plácido Domingo returns to Monaco to sing the role of Francesco Foscari in a concert performance of Verdi's I due Foscari. One of Domingo's notable baritone roles, Domingo has been hailed by the Financial Times as "the definitive Francesco", singing the role with great success at Teatro alla Scala and Royal Opera House.

Based on Byron’s drama, I due Foscari revolves around the conflict between paternal love and political duty. “I first looked at this opera when I was recording all of Verdi’s tenor arias for the Verdi centenary in 2001,” Domingo says. “I think that Verdi, who had lost both of his children, felt a special bond with the character of Francesco Foscari, the baritone, who loses his son in the course of this opera.”

Domingo is joined by Francesco Meli as Jacopo Foscari, Anna Pirozzi as Lucrezia Contarini, Alexander Vinogradov as Jacopo Loredano, Giuseppe Tommaso as Barbarino and Erika Beretti as Pisana.  Massimo Zanetti conducts the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra.
