From August 27th to September 2nd, 40 singers will compete as part of Operalia 2018 at Teatro Nacional de São Carlos in Lisbon, Portugal.
Founded in 1993 by Plácido Domingo, Operalia aims to discover and help launch the careers of the most promising young opera singers worldwide. As part of the competition, singers from around the world audition for a panel of distinguished international opera professionals. Every year, the competition moves to a new city, with past competitions in Paris, Tokyo, Washington D.C., London and more.
Participating in the competition is only the beginning of each singer’s relationship with Operalia. Since the jury is comprised of some of the world’s leading General Directors and Casting Directors, these jurors often invite and engage singers to perform in upcoming productions or to join Young Artist Programs. Past winners of the competition include Nina Stemme, Erwin Schrott, Joyce DiDonato, Rolando Villazón, Olga Peretyatko, and Angel Blue.
