Critics praise Domingo’s performance in Luisa Miller: “A display not to be missed!”

Critics have wholeheartedly praised Plácido Domingo’s performance as Miller—his 149th role debut—in the Metropolitan Opera’s recent production of Luisa Millerwith New York Times critic Zachary Woolf noting:

"What Mr. Domingo is doing is not atypical. It’s unprecedented in opera history. For him to be even credibly appearing in leading parts on the world’s major stages, and adding new ones each year, is as if Roger Federer, today already an ancient champion at 36, were still winning Wimbledon a decade from now."

Highlighting Domingo’s “memorable style,” Woolf continues to rave it is “a display not to be missed…You almost don’t believe your eyes or ears.” Other critics have joined in praising Domingo, with New York Classical Review noting his “force of personality” and calling the “superannuated superstar…the class of the night.” OperaWire hailed Domingo’s “tremendous charisma” and The Epoch Times praised the “phenomenal” artist.
